International payments made easy

A step-by-step guide through the process of making online payments from your Standard Bank international account.

Making a payment

Make payments with ease, in a fully secure environment

  • Sign in to Online Banking
  • From the home screen, click on ‘Pay’ at the top right of the screen
  • Select ‘Pay someone new’
  • Enter the beneficiary name
  • Select the country of the beneficiary bank using the options available
  • Confirm the currency of the payment*
  • Select ‘Account type’ to enter either the beneficiary account number or IBAN
  • Select ‘Bank Code type’ to enter either a valid Swift or Sort code 
  • Click on ‘Next’ to continue 
  • Choose the account you wish to pay ‘From’
  • Enter the value for the transaction
  • Choose the payment of fees
  • You can also edit the value date
  • Then choose recognisable references you and the beneficiary can use to identify your payment
  • You have the choice to save the payment details by selecting ‘Save as a stored payment’
  • Click ‘Review’ once all information has been entered
  • Review the details of your transaction and ‘Confirm’ if you’re satisfied
  • Enter the security code that you will generate using your token device and click on ‘Submit’ to confirm the transaction.
  • You will receive a confirmation message when your payment has been processed
  • Click ‘Done’ to return to the home screen, or ‘Make another’

* The currency may default to that of the selected country. If you choose to pay in a different currency, additional charges may apply

Sterling electronic fund transfers

You can now make a payment within the UK free of charge using Online Banking and the Standard Bank App.

Amending a payment

You can request for changes to be applied to payments that you’ve already made*.

You can use our Secure Messaging service in International Online Banking to make this request:

  • Sign in to International Online Banking
  • From the home screen, click on menu button at the top left side of the screen
  • Click on the ‘Help & Services’ option
  • Select the ‘Get help with something else’
  • In the free format message box, write ‘Amend a Payment’ and give us the details of the payment, as well as the changes you would like to make 
  • A Personal Banker will be in touch to help you

Recalling a payment

You can request for a payment that you’ve made to be recalled. If the funds have been credited to the beneficiary account, the receiving bank will only return the funds if their client gives authority to debit their account and there are sufficient funds available.*  Standard Bank cannot guarantee that a recall request will result in the funds being returned.  If an unauthorised transaction has been made on your account and you consider you may have been a victim of fraud please make the circumstances known to our Personal Banking Team as soon as possible.

You can use our Secure Messaging service in International Online Banking to make this request:

  • Sign in to International Online Banking
  • From the home screen, click on menu button at the top left side of the screen
  • Click on the ‘Help & Services’ option
  • Select the ‘Get help with something else’
  • In the free format message box, write ‘Recall a Payment’ and give us the details of the beneficiary, date and value of the payment that you would like to recall

Making an inter-account transfer

Single currency transfers (such as GBP to GBP, or USD to USD accounts) are unlimited. Transfers that involve currency conversions cannot exceed £100 000 (or currency equivalent). 

  • Sign in to your International Online Banking account
  • From the home screen, click on ‘TRANSFER’ at the top right of the screen
  • Select the account to send ‘From’
  • Select the account you will be transferring ‘To’
  • Enter the value of the transfer
  • Enter the references for your transfer
  • Choose ‘Review’ at the bottom of the screen
  • You can change any of the details by clicking the ‘Edit’ button
  • Select ‘Confirm’ when you’re done to submit the transaction for processing
  • You will receive a confirmation message confirming success
  • Click ‘Done’ to return to the home screen
