Standard Bank International Featured at key industry event

As an active and committed member of the private client community with strong relationships with industry professionals and clients across the globe, we regularly attend, support, and speak at key industry events.Standard Bank is Africa’s largest bank by assets and have been serving clients’ needs for more than 160 years. Today, our international services include wealth and investment, fiduciary services, banking and lending from financial centres in London, Jersey, Isle of Man and Mauritius. The size of our operations is matched by the breadth of financial services we deliver to an international client base.

Our international fiduciary services team and Melville Douglas will be supporting and participating in some high-profile industry events later this year:

1. Jersey Finance Private Wealth Conference – 27 September

We are proud to be sponsoring the networking lunch at this year’s Jersey Finance Private Wealth Conference in London.

Titled ‘Change, Challenge and Opportunity’, the conference will focus on how the financial services sector has to continually adapt to an ever-changing landscape. Speakers will explore how the industry needs to transform by acting responsibly, engendering trust and remaining innovative - a highly topical theme for international finance centres like Jersey that are constantly evolving.

2. CityWealth Forum panel event - 4 October

Standard Bank Group and Melville Douglas are a sponsor of this year’s Citywealth Forum held in London on Tuesday 4 October, with the theme ‘Embracing the new world of private wealth.’

Jonathan Sprigg and Chris Stead, together with other industry experts, will participate in a panel discussion exploring the mindset of African families and the nuances of how they structure, diversify, and internationalise their wealth.

According to UNICEF & AfrAsia Bank, it is projected that one-fifth of the world’s population will be from Africa by 2030 and that a third of all children globally will be African by 2050. The opportunity and need for an adapting private client industry is evident in expectation that total individual wealth on the continent will rise by 34% to more than US$3trillion by 2027.

3. Investing in Africa conference – 10 & 11 October

Jonathan Sprigg, Head of International Fiduciary Services, has been invited to speak at the AFSIC - Investing in Africa event in London on 10 and 11 October.

Jonathan will be sharing a fascinating presentation on the use of foundations in Africa, with a specific focus on the African Women Impact Fund (AWIF) Foundation, which aims to grow the number of women asset managers on the African continent, and MycoHAB, an initiative aimed at eradicating encroaching bush in Namibia, and creating agricultural job opportunities as well as low-cost housing, all at once.

The conference is believed to be the largest annual Africa investment event outside Africa and is sponsored by the US, UK, German, French and Dutch governments and some of the continent’s leading companies.

4. Jersey Finance roadshow in SA – 29 November and 1 December

Standard Bank is proud to support Jersey Finance on this year’s South Africa roadshow taking place on 29 November in Johannesburg and 1 December in Cape Town by sponsoring the lunch at both events. A number of representatives from our international fiduciary and wealth management teams, as well as from Melville Douglas, will form part of the delegation accompanying Jersey Finance at the roadshow.

The roadshow event will include engaging panel discussions with industry leaders covering topics such as sustainability, family offices, as well as onshore and offshore trusts. Michael Giraud, Head of Fiduciary Services, Jersey, who has been recommended by Global Elite earlier this year and recently nominated as trustee of the year – Channel Islands and Isle of Man by Citywealth’s IFC awards, will participate in a panel discussion.

5. Private Client Dining (PCD) Club – 28 November & 6 December

We are committed to building and maintaining close ties with clients and our partners in the international private wealth industry. The PCD Club is the premier business networking club for international private client professionals and provides opportunities for networking with other professionals over dinner.

Michael Giraud, Chadwick Phillips and Sanmari Crous from Standard Bank’s International Fiduciary Services team will be attending the networking dinners taking place at the Radisson Blu Hotel Sandton in Johannesburg on 28 November and at the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town on 6 December. We are proud to be a sponsor of the Johannesburg event along with Jersey Finance.
