The extreme volatility in the global economy and financial markets over the past few years are a stark reminder that uncertainty lurks around every corner. Global stock markets have see-sawed from extreme highs to record lows over the past few years, leaving ordinary investors unsure of what to expect.

African generational tensions regarding the transfer of wealth
As directors of trust companies forming part of Africa’s largest bank by assets, with a presence in 19 African countries, it is fair for us to say that we have significant experience implementing estate and succession plans for families with African connections. Whilst we absolutely acknowledge that each family is unique, as are their estate and succession planning needs, we do still see threads of commonality when we are approached by families wishing to establish fiduciary structures.

Standard Bank Fiduciary Specialist receives STEP Excellence Award

Standard Bank is proud to announce that Nitrisha Doorasamy, a Fiduciary Specialist and Business Development Manager in the International Fiduciary Services team, has been honoured with a prestigious STEP Excellence Award for her exceptional performance in the STEP Diploma in International Trust Management.

This annual award recognises the worldwide top graduate of the STEP Diploma in International Trust Management, which is recognised globally as the benchmark qualification for those working in the international trusts industry. Nitrisha completed the 2-year Diploma in February 2022. According to STEP, the Excellence Awards represent the best and the brightest practitioners, many of whom will be names to watch out for in the coming years.

“I am deeply honoured to receive this award,” Nitrisha says. “The STEP Diploma in International Trust Management has deepened my understanding in this specialised field and further equipped me with knowledge to effectively assist families in their offshore structuring needs. It is a privilege to work in an industry that values ongoing professional development through continued learning and collaboration, as it reflects our commitment to continually improve how we help families create bespoke structures to support their wealth preservation and succession plans.”

Nitrisha is a highly accomplished South African qualified attorney and a STEP Trusts and Estates Practitioner. Having previously worked for a leading offshore law firm in Guernsey, she joined Standard Bank’s International Fiduciary Services team which operates from offices in Jersey and Mauritius to drive business growth within the local market in South Africa. She uses her expertise to forge strategic partnerships with group stakeholders and intermediaries, and help families and corporates set up offshore trusts and fiduciary structures. Nitrisha’s commitment and standard of work has garnered industry recognition, previously being recognised by Legal500 in the United Kingdom and named as a top 35 under 35 by eprivateclient both in the Channel Islands and the UK.

“We are incredibly proud of Nitrisha for this achievement. It’s a true reflection of her dedication that is also evident in her work ethic,” says Jonathan Sprigg, Head of Fiduciary Services at Standard Bank. “Nitrisha's expertise and dedication exemplify the values we uphold at Standard Bank, and we are privileged to have her as part of our team."

Standard Bank, a leading provider of private client and corporate fiduciary services, has been establishing and administering complex and bespoke offshore fiduciary structures for over 100 years. With a robust and agile offering, they combine the strength and depth of Africa’s largest bank by assets with the flexibility of a boutique fiduciary provider.
