Identity verification made easy

Banking regulations require that we collect certain information to verify your identity. In an effort to simplify your application process, please gather the documents as explained here.

PLEASE NOTE: We cannot accept scanned documents, and all documents must be submitted in English, or with an official translation.

Accepted forms of identity

For personal accounts

Any of the following documents are accepted as proof of identity:
  • A current full passport
  • A government-issued identity card
  • A valid, full, UK or Isle of Man driving licence

All documents must be certified by a suitable certifier, and must state ‘Certified as a true copy of the original and the photograph bears a true likeness of [insert applicant name]’.

The certifier has to include the following information on the certified documents:
  • Full name
  • Contact details, including phone number
  • Capacity (e.g. Accountant, etc)

For yacht crew

the following document is accepted as proof of identity:
  • A current full passport from your primary country of nationality
  • Certified by your Captain, First Officer, or a suitable certifier
  • The boat’s stamp on the document

Your passport must be certified with the wording ‘Certified as a true copy of the original and the photograph bears a true likeness of [insert applicant name]’.

The certifier has to include the following information on the certified documents:
  • Full name and signature
  • Contact details, including phone number
  • Capacity (i.e. Captain)

Accepted proof of address

For personal account

We will need one of the following, either in original form or a certified copy, and no more than six months old:

  • A utility bill (electricity, gas, water)
  • A bank, building society or credit card statement from a recognised financial institution
  • A valid, full, UK or Isle of Man driving licence

Joint applicants must provide a bill or statement addressed to each applicant, either jointly or individually.

* Standard Bank Group customers can have their address confirmed by their branch.

For yacht crew

We will need two of the following to verify your residency / employment:

  • An original Captain's letter addressed to Standard Bank Isle of Man Limited verifying your employment on the yacht. This needs to be signed by the Captain (or the First Officer in the Captain’s absence)*. See below template.
  • A certified, true copy of your contract of employment, certified by your Captain (or the First Officer in the Captain's absence)* or by a suitable certifier.
  • An original  letter addressed to Standard Bank Isle of Man Limited signed by a director of the yacht management company, a director of your employment company, or the yacht owner. This letter must be the original, on the company’s letterhead and state the same information as requested in the Captain's letter.

* If your Captain or First Officer is certifying your passport and contract of employment, we require a scanned copy of their Seamans Book or Certificate of Competency showing their photograph, signature and position on board.

Getting your documents certified

Documents and copies will be accepted if certified by one of the following:

  • Captain or First Officer (Yacht crew only)
  • Lawyer*
  • Accountant*
  • Senior Civil Servant or Notary Public*
  • Member of Judiciary Customs or Officer Actuary*
  • Standard Bank approved certifier**
  • Director, manager, or company secretary of a regulated financial services business

* Must be a member of a recognised professional body
**Must be approved by Standard Bank Isle of Man Limited to certify documents
